Dettol's Mission for Health

Dettol’s Mission for Health launches today to promote a healthier environment in the home, in the community and beyond. This will be done through 3 key initiatives;
  • Help for New Mums.
  • Healthy Habbits Lessons in Schools.
  • Disaster Relief for Save the Children.
Dettol is going above and beyond standard hygiene education by reaching out to mums, teachers and the wider community to raise awareness of the simple ways we can all promote a healthier environment around ourselves and our family.

A few weeks ago I got to meet a few bloggers in London. We met Dr Harper from Channel 4's 'Embarrassing Bodies', BBC's Hygiene expert Dr Lisa Acherley and Prima Baby's expert midwife Kikki Khan. They are supporting the campaign and giving out practical advice on how mums can help improve hygiene in their homes, especially for those expecting.

Something as simple as washing your hands can do a world of good and using clean towels is very important as well. When I was pregnant my fiancé made sure I had my own set of towels for when I wanted to have a shower and I'd clean them fairly soon after they were used. It may sound daft but it's an important thing in pregnancy as you could pick something up from using someone else's towels.

Dr Lisa Ackerley did some tests in their kitchen area and we checked 3 areas that are used every day in a family's kitchen area and they were the kettle, fridge door and the highchair. The kettle handle was shocking and the fridge wasn't exactly clean either, but the worst was the highchair's table which made us all gasp with a triple figure showing up on the machine. By just washing your hands you are helping reduce the spread of all these germs. And remember to wipe down your highchair table after use so that your baby and their food isn't in an unclean area.

Here is a video Dr Lisa Ackerly has recorded with some great hygiene tips.

The Mission for Health Facebook page will also offer the chance to win one of 5,000 Dettol Baby Packs which contain useful tips on preparing your home for your new arrival and helping new mums be extra vigilant in the home.  The pack will also include vouchers for money off Dettol Surface Cleanser Spray and Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System. Also for every person who 'Likes' their Facebook page Dettol will donate 20p to Save the Children. So go over there now and join their Facebook Campaign!

So what did I learn from my day with Dettol:

  • Wash your hands can do a whole lot of good.
  • Teach your children at an early age to wash their hands.
  • When working with raw meat always wash your hands and work surface before and straight after.
  • Wash dish clothes in a hot wash to kill all bacteria.
  • You don't have to clean your kettle and fridge every time someone uses it, but do wipe it down once in a while!

Baby Al enjoyed his time with Dettol and we'd like to thank them for inviting us over!

Dettol & The Baby Show in London

As I said in my last post we were invited to London by Dettol as well as given entry to The Baby Show in London's ExCeL Centre. We had a blast! Here's a few pictures for you to enjoy.

On our train down to London, Alex loved looking outside and watching the world go by at such a speed.

Showing us readings from usual kitchen areas such as the kettle and the fridge door.

We so need one of these mats for our wooden floor!

At Tommee Tippee's feeding area. He just loved the red Tripp Trapp from Strokke, and I did too!

Cuddledry's stall was busy and they were great at showing how their products work. Good job, ladies!

Stokke's main stall. I think I'm a fan of their Tripp Trapp after trying it out earlier.

Waiting for the DLR, time for a nap!

In First Class to New Street Station, sitting next to me eating melon and kiwi fruit. He loved the attention of the two men opposite us and the young couple behind us. He also kept offering the couple his Biscotti.
